What is the difference between the 3 and 6 hour courses?
Delaware driver’s license holders have the option to take a 6-hour defensive driving course in order to receive a 3-point credit to their driving record. The credit remains valid for 3 years and entitles the driver to a 10% discount on auto insurance. After three years, Delaware drivers may take an additional “refresher” 3-hour course in order to maintain the 3-point credit to their driving record and receive a 15% discount on their auto insurance. The refresher course extends the point reduction and insurance discount period for another 3 years, and may be taken again every 3 years to maintain the point reduction and insurance discount.
If you have never before completed an approved Delaware insurance discount defensive driving course, sign up for the 6-hour course above. If you have already completed the 6-hour program in the past, and would like to extend your insurance discount and point reduction for an additional 3 years, you may sign up for the 3-hour course above.
What is the price of the course?
The cost of the Delaware Defensive Driving course is $24.97, which includes certificate processing. The voluntary refresher course is $29.97. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and Paypal.
Does this course give me an insurance discount?
Yes! If you are taking the course for the first time, enroll in the 6-hour course above, which will entitle you to a 10% reduction of your auto insurance costs. The discount will be in effect for the next 3 years. After that, you may enroll in the 3-hour course to receive a 15% discount on auto insurance for another 3 years. You may take the 3-hour refresher course every 3 years to maintain your discount.

Will this course remove points from my driving record?
No, the three-point credit is only applied to future violations and does not remove or reduce existing DMV points. Upon completion of the initial 6-hour course, you will recive a 3-point credit to your driving record which will remain in effect for the next three years. In order to maintain the credit after three years, you may take the 3-hour refresher course. The 3-hour refresher course can be taken again every 3 years.
When can I take the 3-hour refresher course to extend my insurance discount and point reduction?
You may begin the 3-hour refresher course 90 days before your original insurance discount expires, and you have 2 years after its expiration to complete your renewal.
How will I get my certificate of completion?
When you complete the course, your certificate of completion will be available to download and print immediately. All you need to do is sign it and turn it in to your insurance company. We will submit your completion record electronically to the DMV so that the 3-point credit can be applied to your driving record.
Is this course state-approved?
Yes. Both our 6-hour and 3-hour defensive driving courses have been approved by the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). To verify our approval status, you may visit the DMV website.
Do I have to take the course all at once?
No! You may log in and out of the course at any point you like. When you leave the course, the system will track your course progress, and when you log back in you will resume the course from where you left off. You are free to work on the course as much, or as little, as you would like at any given time.
